Bo Barker, Vice President of Services –
It’s no secret that modern IT operations consist of more than just keeping the blinking lights green. Reactionary IT management is part of the past, and when it comes to business operations, that’s a good thing. During my early days of IT management, it wasn’t uncommon for teams to handle performance management by gathering in a war room with multiple product vendors and spending days, weeks or even, unbelievably, months troubleshooting problems. With the accelerated pace of business today, this timeframe is no longer reasonable and yet today, it is still the norm with most large enterprises.
It’s no secret that today’s IT teams can’t afford to spend either the time or money required to meet with all of the vendors whose components make up the modern data center. Instead, they need platforms that provide systemic views of what’s going on in the infrastructure: additions, changes and moves in data can be identified in the moment, providing teams with the ability to address potential problems before they occur.
Today’s IT team is proactive about what’s trending in performance data. As important as it is to see what’s happening now, it’s even more critical to see what’s going to happen in the future, so your team can get ahead of the curve and stop performance issues in their tracks. Proactive IT management means setting thresholds for infrastructure performance and immediately identifying when the threshold has been breached.
By being proactive, IT teams can accomplish three goals:
High-performance IT operations are the wave of the future, and teams that don’t get on board with proactive, real-time monitoring will be left by the wayside. Proactive IT means not just empowering teams to make decisions quickly, but equipping teams with the tools needed to make intelligent decisions about the performance of the infrastructure. Infrastructure performance management (IPM) platforms that can provide the company with the information it needs to get ahead of problems will be rewarded with business success.
You can have a high performance IT operation, too; watch our IPM demo for more details.
