Deciding where to run an enterprise application – on-premises, outsourced or with a cloud host – is fraught with challenges. The biggest of these is the cost/benefit comparison. How do you quickly and easily compare the cost, and performance of each platform?
The ‘cloud first’ rush has slowed down a little recently. In two new reports, both IDC and EMA research found that between 65% and 70% of organisations that had put applications into the cloud had taken them back out. The main reasons for repatriation back on premises is disappointment with performance, the lack of meaningful SLAs and the unexpected, constantly escalating costs of the cloud.
So why is it so difficult to get it right? The problem is meaningful comparison. If you look at your in-house infrastructure you get a set of reports telling you how it is performing, you may also have a service level agreement (SLA) in place to ensure everything is performing as it should. You then look at the outsourced model where again you get a set of reports, but crucially they are different from your on-premises information. The SLA will also be different. When you utilize a public cloud service provider they will give you yet another different set of reports and the SLA will be around availability rather than performance. You are not getting an ‘apples to apples’ comparison.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a single standard so you could compare how your application is performing on-premises and in both private and public cloud infrastructure? Wouldn’t it be even better If you could see how your applications will perform before you select the platform that they are going to run on? This is where VirtualWisdom comes in.
VirtualWisdom is a Hybrid IT infrastructure Management and AIOps platform. It is agentless and works out-of-band to monitor the IT infrastructure from the on-premise data center to the public cloud. It is unique in the way that it ensures the performance, health and utilization of the increasingly complex hybrid infrastructure, while being independent from any vendor or technology. It gives a single dashboard view of the entire infrastructure that supports your most important applications, so you can see immediately any issues or provisioning challenges you are going to have before they affect your end users.
VirtualWisdom is used by IT leaders across every industry, and across the globe, to prevent unnecessary application slowdowns and outages. Industry analysts agree that even a one millisecond slowdown in a critical application can cause significant lost business and outages costs into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, leading to a loss of customer trust and brand damage.
Gathering information from each technology silo and application performance monitor is no longer an acceptable way to manage your Hybrid IT infrastructure and that complexity is beyond human comprehension. Monitoring the infrastructure to give you a single, easy to understand, view of how applications are performing and optimized is a priority for 2019 if you don’t have it in place already.
